Fantasy sports have been around for over 30 years. It all
started with fantasy baseball and as its popularity grew, sports fans
from every arena started to adopt the trend.
A fantasy football game is for everyone. It involves forming
a league of around 10-12 teams and picking only players that you think
will have a good season. The fun part about fantasy is that even if you
don’t have a clue what you’re doing, you will still have a
great time watching the players on your roster perform and try to get
you as many points as possible to beat your opponent.
Unless you’re an NFL fanatic, it’s hard to watch
every game on TV during the football season. Most of us have our one or
two teams that we love and make it a priority to watch them each week.
Fantasy football has taken the game to a whole new level because with
fantasy, you’re not cheering on a certain team, but certain
players.
The fantasy football game starts with a draft. Each team
must select a roster of players that they will gain points from during
the football season. This is hard for a lot of first time fantasy
players to deal with as they have to root for players on other teams.
Teams they may hate. But once you get into it, you’ll find that
it brings a new level of excitement to the game that is unmatched by
anything you’ve ever experienced before.
Alright, back to the draft. Within your league, you can
either choose to do an auto draft or a live draft. This can be done
anytime before the first game. With an auto draft it’s easy. You
just sit back and instantly get your lineup chosen for you based on a
set of pre-determined fantasy rankings. Players are distributed evenly
throughout the teams, filling up all the necessary spots to make a full
roster. This is great for people on the go who don’t have the
time to sit down for several hours and pick all their players one by
one, but want to be able to play in a league.
The other option for playing a fantasy football game is to
have a live draft which often takes several hours and consists of each
team owner taking turns choosing whatever player they want. This is the
preferred method of the fantasy football die hard players as it allows
them to have full control of their team. Those who do live drafts will
usually have done a good amount of research and will have a list of
players with them that are pre-ranked, and will just go down the list
choosing them as it’s their turn.
Once the draft is over and you have your roster it’s
time to play. Whatever portal you use to host your fantasy team, will
have everything laid out and tell you what positions you need to fill
and when it needs to be done by. You can make changes all the way up to
kickoff, but be careful as some hosts will lock you out a few minutes
before.
Once you get into the game you’ll get the swing of
things and be researching and setting your lineup days in advance. As
you find out breaking news on players you can go back and adjust your
lineup and hope for the best. After kickoff, just sit back and watch
your players go. A fantasy football game will make your Sundays
something to look forward to and will give you an excuse to fire up the
grill and crack a few beers. It truly is an addictive sport that you
will get better with over time.
